Profile
Dj Maja (pronounced: maya) was born in Ostroleka, though she's been living in Warsaw for six years now. Her first performance in front of an audience took place at New Years' celebration party in 2000 in Poznan. Won't you admit that this kind of start requires some dose of courage? She remembers that without Robert Kobryn, another DJ, she would probably go panic, being not really sure about her skills yet. She used to play mostly house, funky and some old skul then.
Two years later, with the same Robert, she opened a record store called Brzozowa 40 rec, on the Warsaw’s old market, where they were selling mainly house and chill out records. At the same time her musical taste was moulding and its revolution has stopped at heavy electro house beats.
With her music she has won a favour of Krakow's club goers, because this is where she decided to expand her career, after many ineffective attempts in Warsaw. Closed capital, or its promoters, maybe for fear of their positions, didn’t find a place for her at the parties they did. However, she was noticed by Ex-or, a resident and music manager of Krakow’s NoBar, who introduced her to the local clubbers there. Partying in Krakow is usually outstanding though living there was far too slow for her, that finally pushed her back to Warsaw. But she has not forsaken her relations with Krakow, where’s she’s been frequently playing at her own night in NoBar called “Crash Test”.
On the South she also co-operates at project, Dynamic Sequence. They began doing serial parties, now working as an agency inviting young and talented DJs, giving them a chance to play alongside the big names. DynamicS is also the author of the Membrana Team project. Secret summer parties only for members of the Membrana club in Czestochowa are organized under this name.
Maja, for almost two years now, has been enchanted by the sounds of electro, which she’s been combining with house, breaks and progressive beats. She doesn’t go slower than 130 bpm. When she spins, there’s a true dynamism and expression spreading out from the DJ booth, which makes us remember her shows for a long time.
Lately she has found herself in TV, where she hosted second edition of program called "Co Za Noc", in Polish TV station TVN.
Her brand new project called Kobiece Cykle [Women cycles], which she organizes each month together with young and talented DJ Guarana from Cracov, is now being held in 5 cities around Poland. The main idea of the parties is "ladies first", that is introducing best polish and foreign women DJs. Besides carefully selected music, clubbers receive many gadgets, as CD demos and original t-shirts with Kobiece cykle's logo, all together served with a good taste of feminity. Few months ago the project got support from the TV station, where Maja runs a program called Reakcja, promoting young girls with passion for various forms of art.
