Profile “Midnight, New Years Eve, Matt Thorne and Marcus, two of the members of new production sensation, LNM Projekt (the trio responsible for the 2004 Music Week club and DMC chart Christmas number one, “Everywhere” on Hed Kandi records) or bobkat as they are better known in DJ circles have yet another packed out crowd at their own night, Housework, clapping, smiling, sweating, cheering; ushering in 2005, the year that everyone will hear their roar!”
The story:
It seems a long time ago that their first demo cd was handed to Koolwaters GM and Slinky legend Marc Vedo. He could see the potential and immediately snapped them up to be his new residents, a place they still command today.
Mixmag were also impressed with the boys from an early stage and noted them “Two of the best up and coming DJ’s in the south west” in the June 02 edition.
Since becoming residents at Koolwaters nearly four years ago, the club has been voted second best new club in the UK by Mixmag and has had countless club of the month accolades from Muzik and Ministry. It has also spread all over the world, hosting tours in, Turkey, China, Russia and even Bosnia would you believe!
Having played at some great venues in the UK and abroad, these two definitely have much experience for their years, not to mention the confidence that they can hold their own with the best of them. That came perhaps from warming up week in week out @ Slinky and Koolwaters for the industries finest; Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren, John 00 Fleming, an endless list which I won’t bore you with!
After developing their skills and really learning the ropes through playing deep progressive house or warm up tech / trance the boy’s musical style has evolved and matured with them now mainly playing what they would class as, chunky, cool, fat house music, a bit tribal, sometimes dark, badass all the way!
Aside from their countless individual appearances they are probably better known for their back2back sets, as these two can really create a hurricane on the dance floor, keeping crowds hooked like a fish with their, technical ability on all formats of equipment, flair, antics, enthusiasm and basically by playing shit hot house music, whether its original production, remixes of their’s its all good baby!
They also hold between them a residency with “Something Fruity” a damn fine funky house night based in Bristol. They have supported DJ’s such as the legendary Danny Rampling, Junior Jack, Kid Crème, Tim Deluxe, Smokin Jo, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Lottie, Yousef, and Jazzy m over the years. This night was also Pete Tong’s club of the week on his essential selection April 03.
This leads us on to Matt and Marcus’ own night, Housework. Since its launch back in May of 2003 Housework has snowballed into arguably the biggest house night phenomenon the south west has ever seen and at just over a year old things are going to get MUCH BIGGER. The boys have already had great names play for them including Yousef, Lisa Loud, Lottie, James Algate (Godskitchen), Rebekah (Dusted), Mr Pink, Trophy Twins and a host of other stars.
Housework tour nights have blown up in the UK and abroad with tours planned for 2005 in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kiev, Moscow and Warsaw. UK Housework tours have taken place in the back rooms @ Slinky, Tranz@ction, L’America and Naughty but Nice.
Production wise apart from the run away success of “Everywhere” (tipped for a UK top ten spot by the way) they also work under their bobkat guise alongside The Codebreakers, that man Lee Hallet again from The Conductor and the cowboy of Serious records fame and third member of LNM Projekt).
As Codebreakers vs bobkat the trio take things a little darker and more underground and have proved their worth by having their excellent tribal smash, “Suntan” signed to the supercool Orlando, Florida based label,
Agave.
