Profile
If one word can be used to describe Corey’s sets it is unpredictable. He has successfully had the masses at the palm of his hand
Many words can be used to describe DJ of the moment Corey ….
Corey is the people’s DJ and the DJ’s
Corey is one of the northern house scene’s best kept
secrets. For as long as he has known it music has flowed through his veins and DJ’ing has been a natural progression to that. Combining his sets with elements of soul, funk, block party hip hop and some good old fashioned rock and roll, this rebel has never failed to wow a crowd.
Ask anybody who has ever heard his sets, including the man himself what his style is and they would say unpredictable.
Why Sheffield’s house scene is alive and kicking can be largely due to Corey championing the sound and playing to masses ……
Sheffield by every standards has had a long and distinguished house scene with nights like Rise, Love to Be and Bed putting it on the map of the house world. By far one of the brightest sparks to emerge from this is the man in question - Corey.
And like every DJ career worth mentioning, Corey’s rise to prominence sounds no less than a fairytale. After securing a warm up slot in the backroom of one of the most prominent super clubs in the world - Gatecrasher, Corey was quickly recognised for his unique sound. Combining disco, funk and tribal edged house he quickly became a crowd favourite rockin that room till the wee hours of the morn. Thus it was no surprise that he was asked to join the residents team at Gatecrasher’s sister club and soon to be one of the most talked about house nights in the country - Bed. Things were now gaining serious momentum for this guy. Getting name checked playing incredible warm up sets for the likes of Roger Sanchez, Louise Vega, Kenny Dope, Erick Morillo…. more than holding his own in front of the who’s who of the DJ world. But it was the residents nights where Corey properly came to his own… his sets becoming the stuff of legend. His star on the rise, Corey started getting booked at some of the best most beautiful clubs in the world - Shindig, Moneypenny’s, Pacha, El Divino to name a few. His travels have taken him as far
a field as Australia and Russia with a lot more to come. He was now also being
recognised his diversity in his style - most notably playing the techno tent Gatecrasher Summer Sound System as an emergency stand by!
His sets now are as unpredictable as they come - his record box is just as likely to have a record by one of his heroes Sneak or Touche as it is to find a rare Prince or Madness record. The signature block party house sound he champions is constantly wrecking dance floors the world over. His mastery of the CDJ 1000’s is nothing short of breathtaking.
However, his talents just don’t lie behind the decks. Like any DJ worth his salt, Corey can be found in a studio face buried into his Apple G4 tweaking and honing his production skills….waiting for the right time to unleash a couple of dance floor stormers. Watch this space!
Currently, Corey is the main resident at Gatecrasher One’s anchor night Slummin as well as Layed and Strutt…. You will also find him gracing the decks Planet Funk in Birmingham and Blend in Derby regularly.
If you have not yet had a chance to see this phenomenon at work do it now …just make sure you bring a comfortable pair of dancing shoes along cause there ain’t no stopping
